I'm bored, what else is new. Going out to dinner at 6:30, but its 5:54. 36 more minutes to kill!! minus about 10 minutes cuz i need to put on clothing....
anyway, was just surfing wangleehom.com ... i haven't done that in a looong time, like months!! clicked on a random link re: the school he (we?) built (donated $ towards?) ... one kid had this bag with a cool "leehom" character on it! i never noticed it before, but its cool!!!! wonder if anyone can make my chinese name cool like that.... doubt it, too many strokes, might make it look like a jumbled mess. yup.
anyway, there were also pictures of Leehom in Inner Mongolia (although the text just said "mongolia", which is so totally different! its a different country, yo!! the new PA must learn to distinguish between these intricacies!). He apparently went to a town (?) called Ordos, where the Genghis Khan Mausoleum is and he took a few pics in front of it. I'm glad he travels to places that have history and culture, and not to places to get drunk *cough*. anywho. No one actually knows where Genghis Khan is buried - ppl involved were most likely killed to keep the secret (very common back then!), this mausoleum was built for Mongolians and others to worship Genghis Khan. I learned that from Adam, a white dude, also my first year bio TA, who is teaching English in China right now. hahahaa!
the dates for the pictures was dated July 26... that was this past sunday! so i was thinking, what was i doing on sunday?? oh right, being pissed, then eating fish ... arrrgh... then had me a looong convo with my cousin. so it was a good day in the end. glad i didn't go to the airport to stalk leehom. :P ('cept i didn't know he flew outta Beijing that day 'til now!)
in other news, its almost time for me to get dressed. :D
I also went to QuanJuDe last night.
Apparently, even tho its the same chain, they have a star rating system. The one i went to is really close to my place, and is a 3-star one cf. a 4-star one. 3-star ones are cheaper. Plus its QJD's 148year anniversary this year (or smt like that), so there was a promotion going on - 12% off of duck!! too bad the last day is today, and Ade's coming tmr. :( oh well!
anyway, it was good! A LOT better than BianYiFang!!! I highly highly highly suggest you avoid BianYiFang completely if u're in Beijing. Their duck tasted very "fishy", which sounds weird, but is so so true!
The first duck "dish" we got (outta the three) was this skin/fat piece thing from the duck's neck. You're suposed to dip it in sugar and then put it in ur mouth. It was soooooooooooooooooo delicious!!! Duck + sugar is a strange combo, i know, but omg!!! it literally just MELTS in your mouth. Like a piece of fatty heaven!! (it doesn't leave a gross greasy feeling in your mouth, so no worries. and if u're calorie counting, well then, you should stop reading my blog cuz i don't like you and won't eat with you)
The second dish was the normal Peking duck, in wrap, which you wrap yourself. I don't have Da Dong to compare to, but as i said, the duck was a lot better than BianYiFang's. Altho BYF's was prettier in presentation, their duck skin was also chewy as opposed to crispy and the fat was hard as opposed to melt-y. so yes, QJD beats BYF outta the water on all accounts.
The third dish was very disappointing tho. If you get a full duck, u get the bones to bring home, like at Perfect. But we got half a duck (it was just me, mom, aunt), so we got the soup. baaah. MY duck soup tastes a hundred times better than their duck soup. there's no comparison. I had one sip of their soup and stopped. it didn't even taste anything like duck!!!!!!!!
time to get dressed!!
