Seriously, if after attending Sugita's lecture AND reviewing your notes you still do not know which 3 proteins are the SNARE proteins, then u're an absolute and complete moron. there's no other way to describe it. The same guy then asked me today if i was ready for the exam, and was SHOCKED (like, he didn't move or talk for about 5 seconds) when i said "I guess so". He said he's NEVER heard anyone said anything but "NO!!" when asked the same question. like, gebus, what kinda stupid or otherwise totally-pretending-to-be-modest-but-extremely-competitive-U-of-T idiots does he know?!? sheesh! I think i've only said "NOOOO" to that question a couple of times, cuz i'm not a faker like most other U of T Life Science students. stupid people should really learn to avoid me, otherwise suffer the torment and nasty looks and comments i willingly and happily throw at them.
anyhow, in other news... So, for the first lecture of the first class i'm taking for my first graduate degree, Dr.Stanley was the professor (different profs each week). When she walked in, i thought she looked funny - tall [5'11"ish], really really broad shoulders, absolutely no curves to speak of, no hips or waist, and a really weird voice (really deep woman's voice, with very deep undertones added to that). anyhow, i also noticed she had boobs (small, but looked real enough) and no adam's apple. so, i really couldn't place whether she was a man or a woman, however my suspicion was that she was a transvestite (i can't spell). anyway, earlier this week, i was talking to Jason (this guy in my lab), and he told me that he used to work for Dr.Stanley.... when Dr.Stanley was a MAN!!! ... finally, my suspicions have been confirmed. apparently, this change didn't happen too long ago, and she's "affliated" with another prof who's really cool. Anyway, when you think of transvestites, i think most ppl think of ppl who are homeless or just really really strange, high school drop-out types maybe. But Dr.Stanley is sooooooooooo established! she was (when she was a he) the head of cell/molecular biology research at toronto western hospital, and has some really huge publications! so, ya, she's cool... shocking, but cool.
Lastly, my biggest piece of news - I'M GOING TO WASHINGTON DC!!! for a neuroscience conference, not forever. but i get to go to a Con-Fe-Ren-Ce!!! how cool is that?!?! heheheee... I asked my PI when i realized that everyone else in the lab was going! and after some research on my part to convince him (that i can go without being a member of the neurosci society), he said i can go!!! so now, i have less than a week to plan my flight and hotel things - yay, it'll be so rushed (and therefore totally unlike me, and i'm worried...)... so the point of the story is that i'm going to Washington yes, but also that I get to go 出差!! my mommy used to do that all the time, and left me at home, all alone (well, with grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin... but i felt alone!!! and i'd cry when she left... none of u understand do u?... only chewy understands...) ... and i always thought it was so cool to do that, cuz she went to cool places and brought me back cool presents (... *cough* ... like rice... with the grains still inside the plant... i peeled out the rice grains - it took a very long time and lotsa patience... for about 50 grains which then everyone ate tho they looked the same as the other rice grains in the big bag). ... anyway, so yay!
