Fearless

Wow, i like to waste time...
anyways, while browsing thru online leehom stuff (i'm starting to get more and more obsessed! it's slightly scary! somebody make me stop!!!! ... he's just too [insert lotsa synonyms of 'talented', 'great', 'cute', 'down-to-earth', 'polite', 'well-raised', 'talented'] ... anyways... um... what was my point? oh ya! so there's a new movie set to be released sometime in 2006 (i'm just a wealth of specific and useful information today)... it's prolly in Chinese, but it's got Jet Li in it, so it'll be released here too (gee whiz)... it's another one of those martial arts movies, from the director of Hero - it's called "Fearless" in english, but in Chinese, it's called "Huo yuanjia"...

Time to use that noggin' of urs now... "HUO yuan jia"

NOTE THE SIMILARITY?!?!? (hint: what's munkee's real name?)... so now i HAVE to watch this movie!! why? BECAUSE, he's my namesake!!!

Explanation:
In english, when you say "my name is Munkee" for someone to write out, you spell it out for them "M-U-N-K-E-E"... in Chinese, there's no alphabet, which makes it more difficult. Also, there's usually more than one character for one specific sound, and ur name means nothing if they've just inputted a bunch of random characters that sound like ur name ... so it'll still SOUND like ur name, but it's not really ur name... it's like "Tammi" and "tammy"... big difference to the person and for filing purposes. SOOOOO, the solution is generally to to make words (characters make up words) with the characters in ur name [separately, unless ur moronic parents named u after tables and chairs or smt], OR the other solution is to describe how to write ur name... that's easy for names that actually have words that go along with it, or for names that ppl generally know how to write already... but it's rather unfruitful for words in names that people rarely (if EVER) have seen...
Case and point: my name!!! especially my last name (but also the second word in my name). ... my last name is very rare, so those two methods don't work. actually, there is a word that goes with my name that i can use... "huo luan" ... but that means Cholera, so i don't like to use it (and i'm sure lotsa ppl prolly have never heard of cholera either... i don't think it affected China as infamously as it did London). so, my solution to this huge pain-in-the-ass-problem have always been to give the example of this guy: "Huo Yuanjia" (name of movie... c'mon, follow along now).
... BUT! the problem is: MOST HK and Canto ppl here have no fucking clue who he is!!! actually, none of people I've told my name to since i've come to this country, who were not from mainland, knew about my last name. it's soooooooooooooo frustrating and pathetic!!! and i bet if i said "cholera", they still would be like 'arrgh?'... (i don't prance around saying my chinese name. i only tell ppl who ask me in chinese - e.g. chinese school registration [REALLY pathetic in those circumstances], talking to older generations, talking to random chinese ppl who like me and wanna know my name, etc)
Conclusion: i hafta see this movie and support it so that the ignorant Chinese-speaking-and-writing people here who have no clue about the existance of this character will hopefully learn it!! ("huo yuan jia" is an actual person that lived in the early 20th century, famous for martial arts. everyone should have at least heard of him.
(exclusions: everyone who grew up here are excluded from this 'ignorance chinese ppl' category, obviously.)
