Wow. glad to be alive.
We drove to Ottawa on thursday night. With one pit stop, where i stood outside in the -17 degree celcius PLUS windchill weather with a light jacket no scarf and no gloves filling up the gas, we made it Ottawa a-okay at 11:30PM. Sameer and Andrew bonded. i was gonna pass out. Finally, we get to sleep around midnight and a bit.
8AM, i'm up. didn't plan on waking up so early, but yeepee, i was. ... so, it wsa decided that i WOULD go on the tour of the campus and the info session.... i get dressed, sameer/andrew went to buy me a toothbrush (of all things to forget before an interview! geeeez!), and off we went. I got there, signed in, grabbed a muffin, and had to listen to inconsiderate ppl speaking french for the next 10minutes, totally ignoring my existence. i hope they don't get in. they were kinda mean. esp, since i was really nice and talked to them.... juz cuz u know french doesn't make u special, esp not in canada. geeez.... Anyhow. The tour led us to the anatomy lab where we saw the arm of a cadaver, and the hand cut off of a cadaver, and then the hospital where we saw, ooooh, the "bookstore" a.k.a. hospital gift shop. wow.... then it was time to sit and mingle for awhile longer before the info session, that i stepped out early of cuz i had to get to my interview. Interview went well. andrew/sameer picked me up. we went out for lunch (shwarma. yummy!). then went to sameer's again, where the boys played hours upon hours of hockey on the Xbox.... not so fun for me.... kinda funny, but not so fun. then went out for sri lankan food for dinner... came back, watched some tv, zonked out 'til midnight, woke up to leave, but decided to leave at 4AM instead....
4:01AM. alarm rings. get up. sooooooooooooooooooooo tired. and so cold. drive drive drive. just east of belleville, it starts raining. andrew's driving. i look at outside temperature gauge - zero degrees celcius. "careful andrew, there may be ice" .... zones out for 2 minutes.... "hold on jeanne!!!!" .... "hold on to wha.... oh..." car starts swerving right... then left... then right... then we did a 360 on canada's busiest highway. at 180, we were facing a truck, head on, in the truck's lane. by 360, luckily, we were on the shoulder. disaster averted. no ditch. no scratches. just tire burn marks, and smell. yuck. and we're alive.
the rest of the day was tiring, but normal.
met up with CC. had guyanese food. brought half of it home. now i'm here. after a day at the lab. and going thru the ghost station. it's pretty run-down looking. i can see it being used for movies. that's cool. 'cept it says "bay yorkville" on the walls... guess they cover that up!
back to work on the cookbook.
